Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka Reportedly Drops $195,000 On Flight From Japan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Masahiro Tanaka apparently isn't afraid of sky-high airfare.

The new Yankees pitcher from Japan, set to be introduced to the media Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, reportedly spent $195,000 to charter a Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Tokyo to New York.

The plane usually seats around 200 people, but Tanaka's flight included just him, his wife, his wife's poodle and three other people, breaking down to nearly $40,000 per person.

"It's a (chartered) private jet," Tanaka told reporters at Japan's Narita Airport on Sunday, according to the New York Post. "It's not something the Yankees have prepared."

Tanaka, 25, was one of the most highly sought-after free agents this offseason and signed a seven-year, $155 million contract with the Yankees last month.

After Tuesday's news conference, Tanaka will head to Tampa for training camp, which begins Saturday.
