Yankees Designate Chris Capuano For Assignment, Call Up Caleb Cotham

ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSNewYork/AP) — Left-hander Chris Capuano has been designated for assignment by the New York Yankees after retiring only two of 10 batters he faced in a spot start.

Right-hander Caleb Cotham, the Yankees' fifth-round pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2009 draft, was brought up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He made his major league debut on Wednesday night in Texas, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out four in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

New York made the moves before Wednesday's 5-2 loss.

Capuano (0-4, 6.97 ERA) allowed five runs while giving up three hits and five walks without getting out of the first inning Tuesday night. The Yankees overcame that 5-0 deficit with a 11-run second inning and went on to a 21-5 victory.
