Report: Yankees' Andrew Miller Cleared To Pitch

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees left-hander Andrew Miller, who suffered a a chip fracture on his non-throwing wrist Wednesday, has been cleared to pitch, according to a report.

Miller was struck by a line drive during a spring training game against the Atlanta Braves. Despite the injury, Miller said Thursday he still planned to be ready for Opening Day against the Houston Astros, although he had not seen a hand specialist yet at the time.

"I don't know why I would miss time for an injury to my right hand," the left-hander told WFAN's Sweeny Murti before he saw the doctor.

The YES Network was the first to report Friday that Miller has been given the OK to return to the field. Dr. Patrick Owens told Miller the fracture should heal on its own, according to the report.

Miller will likely to have to wear some sort of protective device on his right wrist.

Miller had 33 saves and a 2.04 ERA last season. He will remain the Yankees' closer for the first 30 games this season while Aroldis Chapman serves his suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy.
