Alex Rodriguez Placed On Disabled List With Hamstring Injury

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees placed Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained right hamstring, the team announced.

The 40-year-old slugger injured the hamstring while running out a grounder in the fifth inning of Tuesday night's loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning.

A-Rod is batting just .194 this season, but he hit .368 with three home runs in his last six games.

"Obviously very disappointed," Rodriguez told reporters. "I was just hitting my stride."

He said the medical staff was still reviewing his injury and that he couldn't predict how long he might be out.

"I can't think of a worse time to go on the DL," A-Rod said. "I mean, obviously the offense has been struggling, and I know that I take a lot of pride and responsibility in making sure our offense overall plays well."

The Yankees are calling up left-handed reliever James Pazos to fill Rodriguez's roster spot.

The Bombers are 8-16 and in last place in the American League East entering Wednesday's game at Baltimore.
