Worker Trapped In Excavator Under Boulder For Hours At N.J. Quarry

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A man became trapped inside an excavator under a huge boulder in Somerset County, N.J. Tuesday afternoon.

As CBS 2's Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the accident happened around 2 p.m. at the Gibraltar Rock Quarry, at 484 Route 601 in Hillsborough, N.J.

Crews were excavating some very large rocks on the on the side of a cliff, and a large boulder came down onto the cab of a piece of construction equipment, and trapped a worker.

The worker was trapped from 2 p.m. until he was finally rescued around 4:45 p.m., Biermann reported.

The worker was rushed to University Hospital in Newark via medevac helicopter.

As of 5 p.m., the cleanup continued, and the accident was under investigation.
