Woman's Death After Staten Island Motel Shooting Ruled Homicide

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The death of a woman found shot in the head at a Staten Island motel this past weekend has been ruled a homicide, police said Monday.

Police say the victim was with her boyfriend when she answered a knock at the door at the Cosmopolitan Motel, at 1274 Hylan Blvd. in Old Town, around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The victim – identified as Michele Hernandez, 21, of Brooklyn – was rushed to Staten Island University North Hospital where she was pronounced dead around 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

Police on Saturday said a man at the door and the victim's boyfriend got into an argument, and then the man shot the woman from outside the motel before taking off in a black sport-utility vehicle.

As of Monday night, there had been no arrests and the investigation continued.
