Woman shot through window of Brooklyn home

NEW YORK -- A Brooklyn woman was hospitalized after police say she was struck by bullets that went through her living room window.

Police are still looking for the shooter.

"When I looked outside, I heard a noise like cracked windows," one nearby resident said.

Neighbors woke up to the sound of rapid fire gunshots at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Police say a barrage of bullets were fired at a home on East 102nd Street in Canarsie. At least one of them went through a ground-floor window, grazing the shoulder and leg of a 29-year-old woman.

"She was just standing by the house. She was just crying," a neighbor said.

The woman was rushed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said they recovered 11 9-mm shell casings, adding the shooter fired from the sidewalk and also hit the second-floor windows with a spray of at least five bullets. Two holes were seen in the third-floor windows.

Police said no one else was injured, but the neighborhood is rattled.

"Concern, wondering why it would happen. Pretty decent block," one person said.

"Sorry to hear that, because I live on the block," another said.

"That's why I don't come out," another added.

Police sources told CBS New York the victim living on the ground floor has no arrest history. They say the victim may have been targeted for a connection to her boyfriend. It's not clear if he was in the home at the time. The exact motive is still unclear, but it may be gang-related, sources say.

Police described the suspect as wearing a black jacket, red sweatshirt, and grey pants. Officers said he took off on foot.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
