Woman Killed Crossing Street In Chinatown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - New York City police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Lower Manhattan.

It happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday in Chinatown near the intersection of Canal and Elizabeth streets.

Police say the victim was found unresponsive lying on Canal Street. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say she was crossing Canal when she was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by a 64-year-old man.

The driver remained on the scene.
