Sources: Woman Killed In Machete Attack Inside Bronx Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was slashed and stabbed to death with a machete inside her Bronx apartment building Sunday, police sources said.

Sources told CBS2 the victim, identified by police as 59-year-old Carmen Torres-Gonzalez, was walking in the hallway of her building located at 383 141 St. just after 8 p.m. when the suspect stepped outside of his apartment and attacked.

Torres-Gonzalez suffered multiple lacerations to her body, including wounds to her neck, cheek and shoulder, sources said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, police said.

Authorities who were called to the building took a suspect into custody. Sources said the attack appears to be unprovoked.

Police said charges against the suspect are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
