Woman Hit, Killed By MTA Bus At Busy Williamsburg, Brooklyn Intersection
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and killed by a city bus Saturday morning in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
As CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported, police have identified the victim was Marisol Martinez, 21. Police were called to the junction of Meeker and Union avenues in Brooklyn around 1:30 a.m. upon learning that Martinez had been struck in the intersection.
She was walking south on Union Avenue when she was hit by a Q59 Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus, which runs between Rego Park, Queens and the Williamsburg Bridge Plaza in Brooklyn, police said.
The bus was making a left turn onto westbound Meeker Avenue at the time, police said.
Emergency crews rushed Martinez to Woodhull Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Grief-stricken family members gathered at the scene following the accident. They said Martinez was on her way home from work when she was struck.
The MTA bus driver, a 50-year-old woman, was shaken up by the accident, but uninjured, police said.
The driver remained at the scene, and the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was probing the accident.
The busy intersection of Meeker and Union avenues, located yards away from an exit on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, reopened around 6 a.m.
