Woman Hit By Car While Chasing Dog On Long Island

SETAUKET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle while trying to catch her dog.

The boxer escaped from 56-year-old Peggy Place's yard on Main Street in Setauket around 6:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

Place chased her dog as it ran into the street and both were struck by a Ford Explorer, police said.

Place was rushed to Stony Brook University Medical Center in critical condition.

Her dog was transported to an animal hospital. Its condition is unknown.

The 51-year-old driver of the Explorer was not injured.
