Woman Struck And Killed By Bus While Crossing The Street In Morningside Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was clipped by a bus and killed while crossing the street on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m., police responded to a pedestrian struck at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 113th Street in Morningside Heights.

Upon arrival officers found Wanda Canestri, 68, unconscious and unresponsive. The woman died of her injuries at St. Luke's Hospital, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

Police said a white bus that was parked along Amsterdam Avenue moved forward and struck Canestri as she crossed the street.

A source told CBS2 that Canestri was a tourist from Spain. She was said to be visiting with her sister.
