Woman Dies In Police Custody In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman who was arrested on drug charges died Sunday morning after suffering an apparent seizure in her jail cell, police said.

Jasmine Lawrence, 22, of the Bronx, was arrested in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, on Saturday night for selling and possessing marijuana, police said.

She was transported to the the 79th Precinct station house and placed in a holding cell alone, authorities said. Just before midnight, about four hours after being arrested, Lawrence had an apparent seizure. EMS was called and administered aid to the suspect, police said.

Lawrence was rushed to Woodhull Medical Center around 12:45 a.m. and pronounced dead at 1 a.m., cops said.

Police are investigating. The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
