Body Of 53-Year-Old Woman Found Inside Bathroom Of Bronx Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 53-year-old woman was found dead following a fire at an affordable housing complex in the Bronx on Sunday, police said.

Police were responding to a fire inside an apartment at the Webster Houses in the Claremont section of the Bronx at around 4 p.m. when they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive in the bathroom of the residence, police said.

The woman appeared to have severe burns on her body, police said. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the woman dead on the scene.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending family notification.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Police said a medical examiner will determine the woman's exact cause of death.
