Woman Charged With DWI Under Leandra's Law In Yaphank

YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island mother is under arrest, accused of driving while intoxicated with a teenager in the car.

Suffolk County police said 47-year-old Colleen Lopez was driving a Chevy Tahoe on Patchogue-Yaphank Road around 8:40 p.m. Friday when she was stopped by a member of the department's DWI enforcement unit.

Police said the officer determined that Lopez, who was driving with a 13-year-old female passenger, was under the influence of alcohol and placed her under arrest.

Lopez is charged with driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law and endangering the welfare of a child.

Lopez was being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
