Witness Describes Suspect In 2011 Washington Heights Stabbing Spree As Walking Like A Zombie

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The August 2011 earthquake that shook the East Coast from Washington D.C. to New York City reportedly also shook 23-year-old Christian Falero's sanity.

Falero, wielding a 10-inch kitchen knife, stabbed four people in his Washington Heights apartment and reportedly said the world was ending as the earthquake hit.

Police said after the stabbing spree, Falero ran outside screaming about the end of the world and officers arrived he was on the ground carving himself up with the knife.

A witness who knew him, Monica Buga, described him as walking like a zombie, naked down the middle of Riverside Drive with a knife in his hand.

As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, Buga said Falero said he wanted to end his own life; she told him no, only God can end a life.

Falero was charged with second-degree murder and robbery.

Callers to 911 emergency lines reported Falero was on the loose at the Riverside Drive building just after 4 p.m.

Police say 81-year-old Ignacio Reyes-Collazo was killed, a second died later at the hospital. Three women, ages 60 to 85, were stabbed and a 22-year-old woman was punched in the Washington Heights building.
