No injuries reported after shot fired inside Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, N.J.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey, on Tuesday night.

Wayne Police Chief Joseph Rooney said in a statement that a gunshot was fired just after 7 p.m. in the food court following some sort of altercation and that multiple suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

No injuries were reported and some "subjects were detained for investigation," Rooney said, adding, "At this time, the situation at Willowbrook Mall is under control and all are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues."

Police said they are still trying to determine who fired the shot.

The initial call to police prompted a massive police response. Shoppers in the mal describe the tense moments.

"I heard a loud bang and seen another patron of the mall run back into the store that I was shopping [in] and he let us know that it was gunfire, gunshots, a gun shot fired," Andre Moore said. "Then the manager of the store took us in the back so they could keep us all safe."

NJ Transit said buses heading to and from the mall could face delays due to police on the scene.
