Surveillance video from inside the store shows a man, identified by family as 18-year-old Jordan Byrdsell, place two 2-liter sodas on the counter. As he's ready to pay, two men wearing black masks and hoods walk into the store, speak briefly to Byrdsell and then open fire.
Police said Byrdsell was shot three timed in the chest and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
Family says Byrdsell was studying at Bedford Stuyvesant High School, and will attend Buffalo State College.
Police say Byrdsell has four prior arrests but no documented affiliation with any gang activity.
A 46-year-old man who was shot in the back and a 58-year-old man whose arm was grazed by a bullet are listed in serious but stable condition.
