5-Year-Old Boy Dead After Falling From Balcony In Williamsburg, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 5-year-old boy is dead after falling from a fifth-floor balcony in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Wednesday night.

The boy -- identified by police as Meisels Shimon -- fell from the balcony in a six-story building at 200 Wallabout St. just before 8 p.m., officials told CBS2.

The residential building also houses a pediatric center at ground level, 1010 WINS reported.

Witnesses said Meisels was playing outside on the balcony when he fell, CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported.

"Very very bad," said witness Sam Zupnick. "He was full of blood."

Witnesses said the little boy plunged to the sidewalk below after he may have been playing on chairs stacked up on the balcony.

"I just saw the kid on the floor," said Joseph Yavo of Williamsburg, adding that the boy looked "not good, not good at all… he wasn't moving, at all."

Crowds gathered around on the sidewalk as paramedics with the Hatzolah service worked on the boy. He was taken away on a stretcher and was pronounced dead at the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

"It's a tragedy for the community; for everybody," Yavo said. "It hurts. He was a small kid."

Police sources told CBS2 the child was home alone at the time.

Police were still on scene late Wednesday night.
