Will Knicks Shut Down Ailing Carmelo Anthony?
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Knicks' playoff aspirations are over -- and now Carmelo Anthony's season could be, too.
The Knicks' star forward, who has been playing with an ailing right shoulder, might sit out Sunday night's game against the Bulls. And if he does, with just three meaningless contests remaining, it would be unlikely he'd suit up again this season.
The Knicks were eliminated from the playoff hunt Saturday, when Atlanta beat Miami, 98-85.
Anthony vowed last week to stay in the lineup as long as the Knicks were still in contention. He has described his shoulder injury as a "deep bruise" or "light sprain" but said more tests were needed.
He suffered the injury against the Nets on April 2.
Anthony has struggled since, scoring just 10 and 13 points in losses to Washington and Miami, respectively. He, however, winced his way to a 30-point outing in a win over Toronto on Friday night.
It's the first time in Anthony's 11-year career he will not play in the playoffs.
He's averaging 27.6 points (second most in the NBA) and a career-best 8.2 rebounds per game.
