Police: Retired Officer Shoots, Kills Gunman During Attempted Robbery At Queens Bar

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A retired New York City police officer shot and killed a gunman during an attempted robbery at a Queens bar, police said.

The gunman walked into the ParkSide Pub on 149th Street in Whitestone around 4 a.m. Monday and tried to rob the bar along with four patrons inside, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.

One of the patrons, a 69-year-old retired officer, shot the suspect once in the head, police said.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name.

The small bar sits among five local stores in the residential neighborhood. Residents in the area said the deli next door was robbed twice in recent months.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
