West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York City Health Department is issuing a West Nile warning after they found the virus in mosquitoes on Staten Island.

The department wants people to remember to use insect repellent containing "deet."

The department also said to eliminate any standing water around your property where mosquitoes can breed and to make sure you have screens on your windows to prevents bugs from getting in.

The health department said West Nile can cause encephalitis or meningitis.
