West Babylon Junior High Student Suspended After Bringing Bullet To School

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A junior high school student on Long Island after he brought a bullet to school to show to his friends and accidentally dropped it, according to school officials.

The student was suspended from West Babylon Junior High School on Thursday. A 9 mm bullet was found in a stairwell by a janitor two days earlier.

Authorities ordered a staggered dismissal of the school Tuesday. No injuries or incidents were reported.

The school was closed Wednesday because of the snowstorm. A police officer was sent to the school Thursday as a precaution.

The student, identified by school officials later Thursday, was suspended pending the outcome of a hearing.
