Weather Forecast Forces Stamford To Push Fireworks Show Back To Saturday

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Stamford is postponing its annual fireworks show.

The show, which was scheduled for Thursday night, will now be held Saturday night, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

Mayor David Martin said the move was made because the weather forecast is calling for a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Thursday night.

Martin said he understands the switch might disrupt some weekend plans.

"We're very disappointed that Mother Nature hasn't fared as well this July 3rd," he said.

The city decided not to reschedule the show for the Fourth of July itself to save on overtime expenses and to make sure the weather clears out.

"Pretty much everything else remains the same," Martin said. "It's going to be a great time for everybody that comes."

Entertainment in Cummings Park will start at 6 p.m., and the fireworks will begin after sunset.
