WCBS 880 Gets Special Tour Of Hudson Yards Development
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The long-awaited Hudson Yards development is underway with the first of 16 planned skyscrapers rising eight stories above street level.
WCBS 880's Marla Diamond took a tour of 10 Hudson Yards at the 28-acre site on the far West Side.

"Things are happening," Hudson Yards spokeswoman Joanna Rose said. "10 Hudson Yards is well under construction. It has been for about year and a half now and it's topping out and will be completed in 2015. We're excited to showcase kind of all of the progress that we've made."
The building is the first to rise because it is the only skyscraper that won't be built on a 37,000-ton platform that will cover the Hudson Yards railroad tracks, Diamond reported. The platform on the West Side will cover 30 train tracks.
Related Companies is transforming the largest undeveloped site in New York into a new neighborhood with 5,000 apartments, five office towers, 100 shops, 20 restaurants, a cultural center, an observation deck shaped like a spaceship and 14 acres of open space and parks. The estimated completion date is 2018.
It is the largest private real estate project in American history.
A massive rail tunnel that will eventually provide another artery into Penn Station is also being dug on the project's south side.
