Water Main Break Floods Hoboken Streets

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A wet mess greeted drivers in Hoboken this weekend.

A six-inch water main broke Saturday morning at Newark and Jackson streets, CBS 2 reported.

The area quickly flooded, and it looked like the pavement started to buckle.

This is the same area where the city plans to build a new park to help with persistent flooding problems.

A parking lot in the southwest corner of the city will soon be transformed into a park specifically designed to absorb up to five inches of rain and funnel it slowly into the underground storm water system.

Hoboken city leaders have secured a $250,000 federal grant to help start construction.

It's not clear why the water main burst.
