WATCH: 'South Park' Roasts Snyder, Redskins In Season 18 Teaser

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Respect my authoritah!

The Washington Redskins controversy is back in the headlines, thanks to Eric Cartman & Co. "South Park" aired a teaser for its upcoming 18th season during Sunday's Washington-Philadelphia game, taking on embattled Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his team's nickname.

In the spot, which reportedly aired only in the D.C. area, Cartman defends naming his company after Snyder's team.

"When I named my company Washington Redskins, it was out of deep appreciation for your team and your people," he said.

In real life, Washington had its trademarks canceled due to the storm over the nickname "Redskins," which many have denounced as a slur. The team is appealing the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's ruling, and Snyder has repeatedly brushed back calls for a name change.

The new season of "South Park" premieres Wednesday night on Comedy Central.
