WATCH: Jeter Tops Gehrig For Yankees' Doubles Record
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The captain has passed "The Iron Horse" again.
Derek Jeter is the New York Yankees' all-time doubles leader, having surpassed Lou Gehrig in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 2-1 win over Texas.
His 535th career double was a one-out shot down the left-field line.
Gehrig had held the franchise's doubles record since 1936.
Congrats to Derek Jeter for hitting his 535th career double, surpassing Lou Gehrig for the most doubles in Yankees franchise history!

Jeter, who plans to retire at the end of the season, previously passed Gehrig as the Yankees' all-time hits leader in September 2009.
"I can't think of anything else that stands out more so, and I say that because of the person that I was able to pass," Jeter said after milestone hit No. 2,722. "Lou Gehrig, being a former captain and what he stood for, you mention his name to any baseball fan around the country, it means a lot."
