1 Dead In Crash On Southern State Parkway In Wantagh

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One person was killed Friday night in a crash on the eastbound Southern State Parkway.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. near exit 28S in Wantagh.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, there's not much left of the Honda after state police said the driver lost control and struck the center median. The car then went airborne and slammed into a Nissan in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver's identity has not yet been released.

The occupants of the Nissan suffered minor injuries, Hall reported.

Some lanes were closed as a result of the investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information.
