Wallkill 'Mighty Mites' Football Team Felled By Vinyl Banner, Vow To Bounce Back

WALLKILL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- It was a lesson in bouncing back for a young football team.

So far the toughest competition that the Wallkill Mighty Mites, 6 and 7-year-old, football team has faced has been a vinyl banner.

A now viral video showed the team trying to break through after their win last weekend.

"We were running as fast as we can. The coach said 'Go, go, go,'" Liam Sullivan told CBS 2's Tracee Carrasco.

Coaches and parents laughed from the sidelines as the kids bounced off the banner and into a dog pile.

"The banner was set up. I saw across the field that it was backwards, but I didn't think it was going to be a problem," Coach Jim Cracolici said.

The kids have been taking their new found fame in stride.

"It's difficult enough to teach and coach 6- and 7-year-olds, to teach 6- and 7-year-olds that are on national television is very difficult," Cracolici said.

As the Mighty Mites practiced on Wednesday they were preparing for two opponents, the other team, and a banner.

They plan to show everyone how mighty they truly are.
