Vinyl Fans Browse The Bins In Brooklyn In Celebration Of Record Store Day
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Vinyl lovers across the city were out browsing the bins on Saturday in honor of Record Store Day.
The annual event brought back memories for Williamsburg resident Phylis Hirschenfeld, who was out perusing the LPs.
"Absolutely, I'm the old lady on the block," the 70-year-old told 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis.
Hirschenfeld and others crowded the Crate Record Store's grand opening in Brooklyn.
"We have every genre organized for one dollar. There's over 11,000 records," store owner Patrick Sharicko said.
Jill Pollack told WINS' Dennis that she was using Record Store Day to get over her ex-boyfriend, who took off with her music when the couple split up.
"He wouldn't let me have any of my records back," she said.
The event is in its eighth year and record stores, once thought to be a dying breed, have been making a comeback. Two shops have opened in Brooklyn in the past few months.
In 2013, LP shipments rose by 32 percent to 6-million, while CD sales shrank and online downloads cooled.
