Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In Hit-And-Run On New Jersey Turnpike

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a hit-and-run on the New Jersey Turnpike early Sunday morning.

Police told CBS2 that Officer Vincent Harrison, 25, was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Turnpike at 3 a.m.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our own, may you rest in peace P.O. Vincent Harrison," the 100th Precinct tweeted.

New Jersey State Police told 1010 WINS' Stephanie Colombini that Harrison was driving in a southbound lane in Elizabeth when he collided with another car.

Harrison got out of his vehicle and was on the side of the highway when he was hit by an Infiniti.

The driver took off and Harrison died shortly after.

The New Jersey State Police said in a statement that they have located the Infiniti and and the driver.

The investigation into the hit-and-run driver is ongoing.
