Caught On Video: Deer Attacks Driver After Being Struck By Car

HOWELL, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Oh, deer.

A deer attacked the driver of the car that struck it, and the whole thing was caught on video.

At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, a deer dashed across Oak Glen Road in front of a GMC Envoy, which clipped it.

Patrolman Nicholas Austin was driving behind the Envoy, and caught the incident on dashcam.

"Crazy. Craziest thing I've ever seen. I wouldn't be able to make that up if I wanted to," Austin told CBS2's Alice Gainer.

The Envoy pulled over and the driver - identified as Ellen Sager - opened the door. That's when the deer scampered across the road and tried to jump into the vehicle. Sager struggled with the deer, ultimately kicking it out of the car.

"I couldn't even have time to process it. By the time that I put the car in park and I got out of my car, she already kicked the deer out herself and the deer was on the ground," Austin said.

Sager suffered a minor knee injury.

Unfortunately, the deer died due to injuries it sustained when it was struck by the car.
