Vandals Target Religious Icons At Two Vineland, N.J. Churches

VINELAND, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- Nearly a dozen religious statues at two churches in Vineland, N.J. have been defaced.

The faces of Mary and Joseph were smashed and statues of Jesus and various saints were hacked or decapitated, CBS 2 reported.

This incident is not the first case of vandalism of religious icons in the area.

Last September, statues at a church in Malaga suffered similar damage.

Worshipers believe that they are being targeted.

"I can't imagine what's going through the mind of a person that would deliberately go and deface statues that are dedicated to our savior," one parishioner said.

The parishes told CBS 2 that they plan to rebuild and pray.
