Van Strikes, Kills Woman In NoLIta

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and killed by a van Thursday in NoLIta.

Around 1:35 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at Elizabeth and Kenmare streets.

The driver of a New Jersey commercial rental van had been headed east on Kenmare Street and was making a left turn onto northbound Elizabeth Street, when the driver struck the woman as she walked west on Kenmare Street, police said.

A New York Daily News report said the woman was in her 80s and was carrying a shopping bag. She was pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, the newspaper reported.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

The Collision Investigation Squad was investigating the accident.
