Some Upper West Side Residents Against New Citi Bike Docking Stations

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Citi Bike docking stations are coming to the Upper West Side this summer -- but not without controversy.

Some residents think the locations are ill-conceived, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reports.

One of 39 proposed stations on 81st Street and Columbus Avenue is a concern to Jeremy Sanders -- because the station would be right outside his building.

"There's a lot of children living here in the building, there's the buses going by over here, there's a concern that the kids might think they can wander out among the bikes," Sanders said. "I have small children, it worries me."

"You can look at it, it just would be crazy," said his neighbor, Carol. "Such a busy, narrow street."

There is also worry about proposed docking stations at 74th Street and Columbus, West End Avenue and 94th Street and Riverside Drive and 78th Street.

In a statement, the City Department of Transportation says proposed Citi Bike stations on the Upper West Side are still under review.

300 stations currently span Manhattan and Brooklyn and the DOT says with over 18 million rides so far there have been zero Citi Bike fatalities.
