Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Box Truck On Upper West Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A bicyclist is dead after being struck by a vehicle on the Upper West Side Thursday.

Around 11:30 a.m., police were called to 88th Street and Broadway where they found the 59-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive, the NYPD said.

A 30-year-old man had been driving a box truck north on Broadway, when he struck the bicyclist traveling in the same direction as he swerved to avoid a parked vehicle, police said.

The bicyclist, identified as Jing Yin Jiang of the Upper West Side, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital, police said.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad was investigating late Thursday.
