Used Hypodermic Syringe Found In Sweat Shirt Bought At Middletown Target

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A used hypodermic syringe was found Sunday inside a sweat shirt purchased recently at a Target store in Middletown, New Jersey, police said.

Union Beach police said Sunday that the used syringe was found inside the hooded sweat shirt in what "we all hope is an isolated incident and/or a freak accident and not some sick prank."

Police said there was no way anyone in the store could have known about it, but they encouraged people to be cautious with their purchases.

"This is our community, this is where people shop for their children," the department said in a Facebook post. "If you see something, say something. anywhere, anytime. Help the police get this trash off our streets."

Further specifics about the discovery were not released.
