Police: Owner Of Rockland County Car Dealership Shot Dead Over Dispute About Payment

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Rockland County investigators have released new details about a deadly shooting at a car dealership in West Nyack.

Police said Eric Ross Jr., of Delaware, shot owner Youben Joseph last Saturday at the dealership along Route 59.

Joseph, 37, died the next day.

Ross, 24, was arrested Wednesday in Pennsylvania and charged with murder and criminal use of a firearm.

"This Saturday, our community witnessed a real tragedy," Town Supervisor George Hoehmann said Thursday.

"Before coming into the room, we had an opportunity to speak briefly with the Joseph family. We want to assure you of our thoughts and our prayers, we're very sorry for your deep loss at this time," he continued. "I hope that you can take some consolation and comfort from the fact that justice will be served and that this individual who's alleged to have done this horrible crime will be brought to justice."

Police said the men had been in an ongoing dispute about payment since Joseph sold Ross a white Hyundai Sonata in July.

Ross had ties to the area and attended a local college until about a year ago, police said.

Police said a "heads-up" officer spotted Ross's car parked at a shopping center in Richland, Pennsylvania. He was arrested about 12 hours later at a home in Quakertown.

Ross was due to make his first court appearance Thursday.
