US Soccer Star Carli Lloyd Being Honored As March Of Dimes' Sportswoman Of The Year

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The March of Dimes is holding its annual sports luncheon Wednesday at the Waldorf Astoria.

U.S. women's soccer hero Carli Lloyd is being honored as the Sportswoman of the Year.

When she scored three goals in the World Cup final in July, Lloyd became the face of women's soccer.

"Life's changed a lot," she told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "I've gotten to meet so many different people and exprience so many different things, so I'm not taking any of it for granted."

Lloyd said she and her teammates have transcended the sport.

"So many different people have come up to me and said, 'I never watched soccer before, but I watched the final,'" she said.

The former Rutgers star sees that as a tremendous tribute.

Now there's recognition from the March of Dimes.

"I'm honored to be accepting this award," she said.

Bob Baffert, the trainer of Triple Crown-winning horse American Pharoah, is being named the Sportsman of the Year.
