Upgrade Lets Drivers Go Online To Skip Line At Connecticut DMV

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles is getting a major overhaul.

As WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported, the computer server is being upgraded for the first time since it was installed in 1970.

"Our vision is to make sure that our customers have every tool available that we could possibly present to them to deal with DMV," commissioner Melody Currey told Schneidau. "You'll be able to change your address online, you'll be able to tell us how you want us to communicate with you. You'll have choices - do you want an email, do you want us to do snail mail?"

Currey said most, if not all, services can be conducted online with the upgrade.

Connecticut residents will be able to arrange for learner permit testing, license or registration renewals and explore vanity plate combinations online when the upgrade is complete.

Currey said these improvements will help eliminate many of the inconveniences now associated with the DMV.
