Cuomo Deploys More State Personnel To Fight Ulster County Wildfire

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- More than 110 state personnel were on the scene Monday to help fight a wildfire near Ellenville in Ulster County.

The wildfire broke out Saturday in the Sam's Point Preserve, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news release. As of Monday, it had consumed 800 acres of the land.

Helicopter video shared to Facebook by David Meade showed plumes of gray smoke and haze for some distance before the smoke turned black and the orange-red flames roared over a vast area.

No houses or buildings have been damaged and no one was injured, Cuomo's office said.

Cuomo on Monday deployed more than 70 additional state personnel to help fight the wildfire, for a total of more than 110, the governor's office said.

Local emergency medical services agencies and 17 local fire departments were already on the scene.

Wildfires are fueled by low humidity, dry brush, and gusty winds, and weather conditions are favorable for more brush fires around New York state, Cuomo's office said.

Anyone who sees a wildfire should call 911.
