Tunnel To Towers Foundation Only $50K Shy Of Fundraising Goal For Officers' Mortgages

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is getting closer to reaching its fundraising goal to pay for the mortgages of detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.

So far, the foundation has raised $750,000 -- just $50,000 shy of their goal.

Ramos and Liu were fatally shot two weeks ago by a lone gunman while they sat in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

Liu's funeral service was held Sunday morning in Brooklyn. Ramos was laid to rest last weekend.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was created in memory of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller. On 9/11, Siller abandoned his truck and ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel with all his gear toward the World Trade Center. He was killed when the South Tower collapsed.
