Tri-State Area Residents Soak Up Summer-Like Temps

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- This weekend's summer-like weather was greeted with smiles from both Tri-State area residents and businesses.

As TV 10/55's Dave Carlin reported, the warm temperatures that stuck around on Sunday had residents sticking around the Coney Island beach and boardwalk long past what is considered the end of the busy summer season.

Even after sundown, it remained warm enough to quickly melt ice cream cones.

Area businesses and workers said they consider this a surprise gift.

"We got a lot of rushes of people coming in. A whole bunch of rushes actually," said waitress Nadia Nadia Aboawad.

"We were going to go to the street fair on Atlantic Avenue, and then I saw it was 84 degrees and I said forget it, we are going to the beach. It may be the last day for the year," said Coney Island resident Lisa Van Arsdale.

Meanwhile, residents flocked to open spaces on Manhattan's West Side for a last chance to soak up some sun.

"It's just beautiful. It's gorgeous," one woman said.
