Tri-State Area Braces For Yet Another Winter Blast

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Here we go again.

Another winter storm was moving into the New York area on Sunday.

New York City and northern New Jersey were expected to get one to three inches of snow while the majority of the accumulation was expected to wind up on Long Island and south of the city.

The brunt of the system was expected to hit Sunday night before moving out late Monday afternoon, CBS 2's John Marshall said.

A winter weather advisory was in effect for coastal central New Jersey from Sunday night through Monday.

New York City has issued a snow alert beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Department of Sanitation will be loading salt spreaders and readying plows, tire chains and supplementary personnel. Alternate-side parking rules have been suspended for Monday.

The counties north of the city are expected to see little to no snow.

In response to the winter storm forecast Amtrak plans to operate on a modified snow schedule on Monday. Acela Express and Northeast Regional trains will operated but passengers should expect reduced frequencies. There will also be fewer Keystone Service trains available.

In New Jersey, Governor Chris Christie had declared a state of emergency ahead of Monday's storm.

NJ Transit customers were told to expect delays, detours, and service adjustments due to the storm. Rail passengers were also told to plan accordingly and to build additional travel time into their schedules to account for delays, adjustments, and cancellations. Light rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule and Access Link Paratransit service is suspended statewide.

NJ Transit will be cross-honoring tickets system wide.

The Office of Emergency Management also issued a hazardous travel advisory for Monday. Motorists were advised to closely monitor road conditions and use mass transit whenever possible.

In New Jersey, residents told CBS 2's Tracee Carrasco that they were sick of the winter weather.

"Just knowing that it's coming back I am absolutely dreading it," one man said.

The overwhelming majority of the New Yorkers CBS 2's Janelle Burrell spoke to say they are ready for this seemingly endless winter to be over with and for the warmer temperatures to move in.

"More snow, like again?" Zach Alfred, of Crown Heights, said. "That's what I was thinking."

"I'm counting down the days till spring," another man told Burrell.

Another blast of the snow on the way has left many snow weary.

"It was depressing because the park will get snowbound again, and it's really tough to walk the dog," said Lee Wilson, of the Upper West Side.

Some pooches, however, don't mind it.

"They love this weather," one woman said of the dogs. "To them, the colder, the better."

"Is it arduous sometimes? Yes, absolutely," said Karen Targo, of lower Manhattan. "But you know what? It'll just make spring that much sweeter. It is what it is. I just accept it, make the best of it, smile through it and move on."
