Traffic Concerns Follow Unveiling Of Meadowlands Plan

CARLSTADT, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Plans unveiled Tuesday for casinos and a convention center at the Meadowlands have left some wondering what it will mean for traffic in the area.

Jim Kirkos, head of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, said traffic is a priority, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.

"We realize that to achieve this long-run, we still need to focus on mobility and transportation items, and we'll continue to do that," he said.

Kirkos added that most new traffic won't be during the rush.

"If you can provide good, clean, safe, reliable service, people will get out of their cars," he said.

Robert Ceberio said he is a proponent of the plan.

"I'm old enough to remember the same conversation with Giants Stadium when they added the Izod and added the racetrack and everyone has been able to live with it, absorb it," he said.

Business leaders on Tuesday laid out the plan to transform the area into a multi-venue entertainment district.

The plan includes a 250,000-square-foot casino, 1 million-square-foot convention center and about 20,000 parking spots, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell posted on Twitter.
