Track Problems Snag LIRR Trains During Evening Rush

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A track condition at Penn Station caused major delays on the Long Island Rail Road during the Friday evening rush.

As of 8:45 p.m., all lines except for the Montauk and Ronkonkoma lines were experiencing good service, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

But beginning about three hours earlier, track conditions at Penn Station caused delays and cancellations on each and every LIRR line.

Twenty- to 30-minute delays persisted as late as the 8 p.m. hour east of Jamaica due to a track condition, the MTA said.
