Tom Coughlin Still Itching To Coach Again
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Tom Coughlin isn't giving up on his dream of coaching again.
After he reluctantly stepped down as the Giants' coach in January, Coughlin made it clear that he hoped to coach again. The Philadelphia Eagles interviewed him, but he later removed himself from consideration. The San Francisco 49ers also interviewed Coughlin, but hired Chip Kelly instead.
But Coughlin told The MMQB's Peter King that he will again pursue a coaching job next season, despite that he'll then be 70 years old.
"I've coached 47 years of my life," the two-time Super Bowl-winning coach said. "You take it away, and that's not an easy thing to duplicate."
He added that his "motor is starting to run again."
"It'll take two to tango," Coughlin said. "The 70-year-old-man stuff will be a factor (in convincing a team to hire him), and I'm sure they'll know this would be a three- or four-year thing.
"If I have an opportunity to speak to anyone (about a coaching job), they'll see what I'd be able to do for them."
Coughlin refused to criticize the Giants for the way things ended.
"I'm not gonna go there," he said. "Fifteen years in the organization, and I'll stand by that. I'm disappointed how it ended, but I had a lot of great times there. I'll be rooting for them every time they play."
For now, Coughlin said he's spending more time with his family and working with The Jay Fund, the charity he started that helps the families of children battling cancer.
