Toddler Found Dead, 5 Others Injured In Bridgeport Condo Fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An 18-month-old girl died in a condo fire that also injured five other people early Sunday morning in Bridgeport, police said.

Fire officials responded to a call of a fire at a condo complex on Frenchtown Road around 3:30 a.m.

Crews reportedly found the toddler's body under the crib in her bedroom. Two other children and three adults were being treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen and spread to the second floor, officials said. Smoke alarms in the condo were found to be disconnected, they said.

No other information was immediately available. Officials are investigating.

It's the second devastating fire in Bridgeport in four days. On Thursday, a blaze at a condo building on Charles Street left more than 100 people homeless. Two people were injured in that fire, officials said.
