Tires Slashed, Mailboxes Torn Apart In Stamford Vandalism Spree

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Police in Stamford, Conn., are looking for vandals who caused havoc in one neighborhood over the weekend.

Residents of the North Stamford neighborhood tell authorities they think it's probably teenagers who slashed the tires of parked cars and tore apart several mailboxes.

Police Captain Richard Conklin says more than a dozen residents living on three different streets were targeted.

"Some of the damage is extensive. One person, four tires, out-of-pocket cost of approximately $1,000," he told WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Conklin says the incidents appear to be random acts of vandalism in an upscale neighborhood that is normally very quiet. He says police are patrolling the area around Stanton Drive at night, but for now there are no tips.
